As of from August 2007, all four or more bedroomed house in the UK will have to have a HIPS report, or home information packs before the house is put to market.
There are ways to avoid hips. A private house sale is one of them. This is an EU directive, so all members of the EU will have to take onboard that all residential property sales will have to have a hips assessment undertaken before putting the house up for sale before 2010.
A hips free sale is possible when you sell privately.
